“Yes, It Is a Big Deal!” – How to Handle Supportive Friends

If you’re anything like me, you’ve got some amazing friends and family. Friends and family who only want the best for you and hate to see you upset. But sometimes, their good intentions are enough to drive you crazy!

Dealing with thinning hair is tough. Sometimes it’s difficult to feel good about yourself when you look in the mirror and immediately zone in on your thinning hair. So, occasionally, you mumble something under your breath or wish aloud that things were different. And once in a while you’re bound to make self-deprecating remarks. That’s what we do as humans.

But have you noticed how anxious your friends and family are to contradict your statements. You let one little complaint slip and you’re bound to hear:

  • You’re so beautiful
  • It’s really not that noticeable
  • It only looks bad to you – the rest of us barely see it
  • Don’t be so hard on yourself – you’re amazing

Why don’t they just let you complain?  You think it…so why can’t you say it? Here are some ideas for avoiding the over-supportiveness (is that a word?) of your friends:

Be honest with them. Let them know how your thinning hair makes you feel. Be sure they understand that you can cope with this challenge but that you’d prefer sympathy to words of encouragement. Just be calm when you talk it out and don’t call them idiots.

Find friends who do understand your pain. Millions of individuals suffer from thinning hair and baldness. Join a forum. Find a friend online. Connect with someone who is experiencing your same challenges and save your well-earned complaints for their ears only.

Invite your friends to read up on thinning hair. They only see you suffering. Ask them to jump online and read the stories and forums that have been established for those with thinning hair. Maybe they’ll understand your complaints a little better if they hear the same thing from others.

And then, of course, there is our favorite solution: use Volluma to enhance the thickness of your hair. That way, you won’t need to complain and your friends will never know the personal struggles you’re dealing with.

No, your friends and family will never truly understand (unless they experience thinning hair themselves), but nobody’s perfect. However, they can still be a great support system to you if you help them see your point of view.
